Der Zigeunerbaron (The Gypsy Baron), Strauss II
Podíl
In which we find out why Sandor Barinkay came here in the company of the government commissioner Carner. But regaining the family estates will not be easy: Barinkay's father died in exile a quarter of a century ago, and although the country was liberated from Turkish captivity, the property, unfortunately, fell into different hands. There are witnesses who remember those times - for example the old Gypsy Czipra, who will be happy to testify for the benefit of young Sandor. However, Kalman Żupan, an enterprising pig breeder, is not very satisfied with the restoration of the property to the rightful owner. Besides, how is he to sign if he can't write. And yet, it is possible to get out of trouble, as Sandor is extremely powerless against the female beauty, and Arsena is Zupan's daughter. The sly pig offers him his daughter's hand, which suits Sandor on the spot. Unfortunately, Arsena loves - and this effectively - the equally passionate Otokar, son of his Bona, Mirabella, who apart from her is only busy searching for the legendary treasure - the one that Sandor's father allegedly acquired in the Turks and then hid somewhere. At this point, Carnero also doesn't quite know whose side to take, despite clear official indications. Twenty years later, it is here that he meets his wife. She is a bygone beauty Mirabella, though still resourceful and clever. So if it is true that Ottokar is twenty years old, Carnero is his father, although it should rather be believed that he was born later, already in a harem, where the omnipotent Pasha did not regret that fate had given him a beautiful captive who, by nature, always succumbed to the stronger . And what next - since Arsena loves Ottokar, who is not going to stop loving Arsena? This is where Saffi appears, a Gypsy woman so beautiful that Sandor becomes at once with the Gypsies. Sandor willingly agrees to become their leader and takes the title of a gypsy baron. Just what the logic of events brings: a wedding with Saffi, even to spite Arsen, which in a way solves the matter. However, neither Żupan nor Carnero can digest this: Barinkay and some gypsy woman, and a wedding! From word to word and act, a great brawl breaks out between Żupan's people and the Gypsies.
