The Queen of Csárdás was presented almost a hundred years ago, it was rewritten more than fifty years ago and it is performed with undivided success all over the world and in Hungary to this day. In the 1990s, the story unfolding in the two capitals of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was interpreted by the people of Vienna as an expression of Viennese identity, and the people of Pest interpreted it as an expression of Hungarian identity. The text rewritten by István Békeffi and Dezső Kellér in 1954 was intended to show the impotence and corruption of the aristocratic class in the formulation of power and the press. In 2007, it was possible to think through the current political sayings of the Queen of Csárdás and present her interpretation in quotation marks. The question is whether it is worth it. As Békeffi writes: "... the operetta is a fairy tale. Sometimes it's a funny, sometimes it's a sad little tale; interwoven with music, dance – and a bit of poetry. And you don't have to be ashamed of this lovely genre, you have to believe in it

A Csárdáskirálynőt közel száz éve mutatták be, több mint ötven éve írták át és mind a mai napig osztatlan sikerrel játsszák szerte a világon és Magyarországon. Az Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia két fővárosában bonyolódó történetet a tízes években a bécsiek a bécsi, a pestiek a magyar identitás kifejeződéseként értelmezték. Az 1954-ben Békeffi István és Kellér Dezső által átírt szövegkönyv a hatalom illetve a sajtó megfogalmazásában az arisztokrata osztály életképtelenségét és romlottságát hívatott bemutatni. 2007-ben végig lehetne gondolni a Csárdáskirálynő aktuálpolitikai mondandóját és előadni idézőjelbe tett értelmezését. Kérdés, hogy érdemes-e. Ahogy Békeffi írja: “… az operett mese. Hol vidám, hol szomorú kis mese; átszőve zenével, tánccal – és egy kis költészettel. És nem kell szégyellni ezt a kedves műfajt, hanem hinni kell benne. […] Én, amikor úgy éreztem, hogy már nem hiszek benne – abbahagytam.”
