The story, which originally took place in the 1600s, was adapted by the play's director, Kossuth Prize winner Tamás Juronics, into the 21st century. he transposes it into the 20th century, thus giving a modern interpretation that gives real content to the people of today. Belmonte, a rich young Spanish man, travels to Turkey with his group of friends, where he is preparing for his wedding, but three members of the group, including his bride, Konstanza, are kidnapped. This is the play's main source of conflict, the hoped-for solution of which - the planning and execution of the escape - provides the plot of the work. But the true core of the work is the power of true love based on loyalty. The representatives of pure love and the desire for freedom face the power that is hostile to them and separates them, the world of Sélim Basa's secret harem. Dramatic story, which also contains comedy elements in many places, thanks to the two acting friends, Blonde and Pedrillo's playfully clumsy fight with Ozmin, the Basa's determined harem guard, but what really happens is that the characters have to break through mental obstacles. The two lovers in the play, and even the enemy, Basa Sélim, have to adjust in the labyrinth of emotions.
Searching for his love, Belmonte finds the place where his beloved is being held at the very beginning of the opera. But will he find the girl's heart again?
Fate also teaches Konstanza a lesson: she could break her captivity, she could forget her old lover in order to stay alive. Can he stay true to his love even unto death?
Szelim is an all-powerful detainer, yet he expects Konstanza to love him out of her free and independent decision. Seeing so much loyalty and steadfastness, can he cope with her defiant will, along with his past and the possibility of failure?

Az eredetileg az 1600-as években játszódó történetet a darab rendezője, a Kossuth-díjas Juronics Tamás a XXI. századba ülteti át, ezzel adva egy modern, a mai kor emberének is valódi tartalmat adó értelmezést. Belmonte, a gazdag spanyol fiatal baráti társaságával utazik Törökországba, ahol az esküvőjére készül, ám a csapat három tagját, köztük a menyasszonyát, Konstanzát is elrabolják. Ez a darab fő konfliktusforrása, amelynek remélt megoldása – a szöktetés tervezése és kivitelezése – adja a mű cselekményét. De a mű igazi gondolati magja a hűségen alapuló, igaz szerelem ereje. A tiszta szerelem, illetve a szabadságvágy képviselői állnak szemben a számukra ellenséges, őket szétválasztó hatalommal, Szelim basa titkos háremének világával. Drámai történet, mely ugyan sok helyen vígjátéki elemeket is tartalmaz, köszönhetően a két cselekvő barát, Blonde és Pedrillo játékosan ügyetlen harcának Ozminnal, a basa mindenre elszánt háremőrével, de a valódi történés az, hogy a szereplőknek lelki akadályokon kell áthatolniuk. A darab két szerelmes párjának, sőt még az ellenségnek, Szelim basának is el kell igazodnia az érzelmek labirintusában.
A szerelmét kutató Belmonte már az opera kezdetén megtalálja azt a helyet, ahol kedvesét fogva tartják. De vajon újra megleli-e a leány szívét is?
A sors Konstanzának is feladja a leckét: megtörhetné a fogság, az életben maradásért a basa mellett elfeledhetné régi kedvesét. Vajon akár a halálig is hű tud maradni szerelméhez?
Szelim teljhatalmú fogvatartó, mégis azt várja, hogy Konstanza szabad és önálló elhatározásából szeresse őt. Vajon képes-e megbirkózni ennyi hűség és állhatatosság láttán a lány ellenszegülő akaratával, és mindeközben múltjával és a kudarc lehetőségével?
