The latest production of "The Bat" by Johann Strauss-son, with its premiere in October 2019, was staged at the Musical Theater 100 years after its first premiere in Bulgaria, which was back in 1919 in the then "Free Theater". "The Bat" along with the waltzes "On the Fair Son Danube" and "Tales from the Vienna Forest" is one of the most famous and beloved works of Johann Strauss-son. The work of the famous Austrian composer - proclaimed the King of the Waltz - has not left the world's operetta stages since its premiere on April 5, 1874 in the "Ann der Wien" theater in Vienna until today. It has earned its status as a classic operetta and is therefore often performed in opera houses alongside the works of Mozart, Wagner and Verdi. On the stage of the Musical Theater, the most beloved operetta of the Waltz King was played for the first time in 1954. The latest stage version is the ninth in a row. With the last productions of "The Bat" between 2004 and 2006, the Musical Theater toured Japan and all of German-speaking Europe with great success. Strauss' "The Bat" is a classic dance operetta in which the themes of love and marital fidelity are revealed against the background of the wonderful melodies of the waltz, polka and quadrille. The plot is peppered with comical twists and turns that test the marriage of the main characters Eisenstein and Rosalind. Unaware that the Bat's Revenge plan is in action, Eisenstein woos his own masked wife at Prince Orlovsky's ball. "With this premiere of The Bat, we want to present a gift to our audience," says the director of the new production, Mariyana Arsenova. "The audience will see a classic reading of the play and, at the same time, a completely new and previously unseen stage version of The Bat." It is done with a joke, with lightness and finesse - as all operetta titles are staged in the Musical Theater."
