"Oh, if I had only believed my daughter..." the farmer thinks to himself when he is imprisoned for allegedly stealing a pestle. The poor fellow presented the king with a golden mortar. He, in turn, only remarked that an equally golden pestle must be included, which the farmer withheld from him and thus stole. So, off to the dungeon! The clever farmer's daughter wanted to save her father from exactly this misunderstanding. The king hears of the daughter's special intelligence and summons her to his court, where he wants to put three riddles to the test. Finally, the head of state succumbs to the cleverness of the farmer's daughter and even takes her as his wife. But when his new wife warns of a royal mistake, she has to leave the court. You can only take what you have with you in a chest what she loves most. So the wise queen prepares a last supper and puts her husband to sleep with a potion - he finds himself sitting in said chest the next morning... In his opus, which comes along as a cheerful fairytale opera, Carl Orff not only processes the Grimm fairytale material. In his libretto, he succeeds in presenting subversive sentences such as »Whoever has power has the right, and whoever has the right also bends it, because violence reigns everywhere!« in a profound but cheerfully mischievous guise. Sentences that some listeners will probably have held their breath at his time. After »Vetter aus Dingsda«, we are looking forward to further cooperation with the Leipzig University of Music and Theater, which guarantees a lot of joy in playing and fresh, youthful voices.
