A psycho trip about loss, fear and of course love.


Paul cannot get over the death of his beloved wife Marie and lives in a memorial room for the dead woman. He is initially fascinated by the dancer Marietta because of her resemblance to Marie, but then he loses himself in a whirlpool of conflicting feelings that turn this love into hate. Only late does he realize that he only dreamed part of his experiences and now decides to leave the dead city.


When Korngold wrote ›Dead City‹, which was heavily influenced by symbolism, at the age of 23, he had already brought out two successful operas in Vienna. The child prodigy from a poor family - his father Julius was the most important music critic of his time - had studied with Alexander von Zemlinsky, among others, but in contrast to his teacher always remained true to a late romantic and tonal style of writing. After emigrating to Hollywood, initially voluntarily and then forced by the Nazis, he became the father of film music, which he significantly influenced.
