In Mozart's Magic Flute we find a strange story, evoking to some extent a typical classical fairy tale. Many circumstances of the "fairy tale" of this story also indicate: the existence of the wise old man Sarastra and the evil Queen's night, the pilgrimage of the brave Tamin looking for the lost Princess Pamina, the apparitions of three mysterious ladies, but also the presence of a typical fairy-tale creature, Papagen's companion. The main characters are magically protected by the miraculous sound of the flute and chimes, the "obligatory" fairytale triumvirate fills the Temple of Wisdom, the Temple of Reason and the Temple of Nature - and in addition to these three temples, three trials prepared for Tamin on his miserable journey. However, the typology of characters with regard to their musical formation certainly goes beyond any clichés: and so the dark Queen of the Night sings the wonderful coloratura arias, and the gloomy world of Sarastra and his priests, in turn, is the abode of wisdom and balance. The plot is strangely complex and at times contradictory, as if librettist Emanuel Schikaneder and Master Mozart created it with a great deal of arbitrariness, ignoring to some extent the rules of conventional composition. So how is it? Did Mozart introduce us to the ambiguous, strange world of the Magic Flute just out of some kind of hunting - or is nothing really accidental here, and as some believe, in illegible symbolism are hard-to-understand ideas and signs cleverly encoded? Whether that is the case is a difficult question for experts. However, we may be captivated by Mozart's phenomenal vision of a strange mythical world - and invite us to a mysterious and somewhat strange fairy tale, which is certainly suitable for adults.
