Where strict distance rules apply, seducers do not have an easy time. Mozart's "Don Giovanni" will also experience this at styriarte 2020. What was planned as a scenic production directed by Adrian Schvarzstein is now being transformed into a large cross-section of arias from Mozart's "Dramma giocoso". Michael Hofstetter jumps in at short notice and is on the podium of the styriarte festival orchestra, but he will now play along in the lively hustle and bustle around the tamed seducer. Simply shortening was out of the question for the styriarte. The necessity of having to work with a few singers and a small orchestra becomes a virtue: a new story about the needs of music theater to make art in times of crisis. A desperate impresario, a cold Leporello with a face mask and a maestro who saves, what can still be saved are the protagonists. In between, four wonderful young singers, who were selected for this production during the audition, enter the ring. The Alsatian Damien Gastl is the young seducer - just as fresh and blond as Luigi Bassi, Mozart's first Giovanni. Miriam Kutrowatz from Burgenland is not only vocally "bella figura" as Zerlina. Tetiana Miyus, from Kyiv, shines as Donna Elvira. Michael Hofstetter pulls out all the stops in his vibrant Mozart style. This cheerful evening will probably come close to the reality of Mozart's time with its semi-operas, indisposed singers and non-existent productions.
