Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's dramma giocoso "Don Giovanni" is often referred to as a "masterpiece" or "opera of all operas". For the figure of Don Giovanni, Lorenzo Da Ponte drew on the archetype of the notorious womanizer: Don Juan. Mozart's classically light tonal language is complemented by hauntingly dark tones in keeping with the "funny drama" and provide lightness and depth at the same time.
