Johann Sebastian Bach had not been alive for almost 60 years when Mendelssohn Bartholdy saw the light of day - and yet both should be important for the progress of the other. While Mendelssohn Bartholdy brought his forgotten idol back into the public consciousness in the 19th century, Bach was also formative for his own work. An impressive testimony to this influence is the oratorio "Paulus", which will be performed on Easter Sunday in Grafenegg with a star cast, including the rousing soprano Nikola Hillebrand as a soloist. The Frenchman Fabien Gabel, who is currently one of the Tonkunstler Orchestra's favorite conductors, will be on the podium. The Arnold Schoenberg Choir is called upon to perform the rousing choral passages in this wonderful work.

Johann Sebastian Bach lebte schon seit fast 60 Jahren nicht mehr, als Mendelssohn Bartholdy das Licht der Welt erblickte – und dennoch sollten beide für das Fortkommen des jeweils anderen bedeutsam sein. Während Mendelssohn Bartholdy im 19. Jahrhundert sein vergessenes Idol wieder ins allgemeine Bewusstsein rückte, war Bach auch für dessen eigenes Schaffen prägend. Ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis dieser Einflussnahme ist das Oratorium «Paulus», das am Ostersonntag in Grafenegg starbesetzt zur Aufführung gelangt, unter anderem mit der mitreißenden Sopranistin Nikola Hillebrand als Solistin. Am Pult steht der Franzose Fabien Gabel, der derzeit zu den Lieblingsdirigenten des Tonkünstler-Orchesters zählt. Für die mitreißenden Chorpassagen des herrlichen Werkes ist der Arnold Schoenberg Chor aufgeboten.
