Sous la baguette sensible de Michael Schønwandt, la saison symphonique se termine en beauté avec deux grandes oeuvres du répertoire classique. Le Concerto pour piano n° 1 de Tchaïkovski tout d’abord, où l’on se dit que le compositeur a eu raison de ne rien céder aux cris scandalisés du pianiste Nikolaï Rubinstein qui qualifia d’injouable et sans valeur ce bijou du répertoire. Au chapitre des curiosités, on signalera que Tchaïkovski y a utilisé plusieurs chansons du folklore ukrainien et même un air français « Il faut s’amuser, danser et rire ». En deuxième partie, voici Une Vie de héros, couronnement d’une décennie de grands poèmes symphoniques inspirés à Strauss par des arguments littéraires, poétiques et philosophiques. À 34 ans, le compositeur bavarois se met lui-même en scène en s’autoparodiant, non sans une bonne dose d’humour.

Under the sensitive baton of Michael Schønwandt, the symphonic season ends in style with two great works from the classical repertoire.
