The Ministry of Tourism and Culture presented the Lyrical Gala for the end of the activities of the clinic that Ball State University carried out over 5 arduous days in different rooms of the Bicentennial Theater. The clinic, developed by the Ball State University of Indiana, United States, began on Monday, October 1 with hundreds of attendees who were able to enjoy different courses aimed at lyrical soloists as well as different choirs, among which are the University Choir and the Children's Choir. On the stage of the Main Hall of the theater, a master class of "American Negro Spirituals" was given. In addition, within the curriculum, several yoga classes for singers were included, something unusual for San Juan residents and that forms a new methodology for muscle relaxation. One of the events most anticipated by the participants was the mock opera audition. In which, some selected soloists were able to be part of an audition evaluated by Ball State professionals. Here they were given various tools when auditioning for an opera role, with the Teatro del Bicentenario being one of the institutions that most generates this type of selection. Among the participants, Camila Velazquez, a 22-year-old mezzo-soprano from San Juan, commented: “I felt very comfortable, the teachers are very friendly and convey a lot of confidence. They helped me a lot with the oral technique and the interpretation of the characters.” She performed "Smanie Implacabile" by Mozart, at the final gala. Likewise, Claudia Lepe, 46-year-old contralto from the neighboring country, Chile, based 3 years ago in the province of San Juan, who already has a professional career, having sung in theaters in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, expressed about the mock auditions: "We had informative auditions, where a group of people evaluate you to check if you belong to the register you say you are, soprano, mezzo-soprano or alto, and to see if the repertoire you sing is correct”. Both highlighted the kindness and professionalism of the teachers and were grateful for this opportunity, granted by the Bicentennial Theater in collaboration with the American university. Finally, the closure was held by the Lyric Gala, in which the same students participated, who interpreted the arias and works that they worked throughout the clinic.
