Do you always want more? The latest phone? Another sweater? Or are you happier without wishes? This contemporary children's opera revolves around a current theme: greed. A musical fairy tale for children and parents.

Even though Jacob and his parents are poor, they are happy. One day, Jacob catches a special fish. "Throw me back into the sea," says the fish. "Then I'll give you everything you want." In a flash, brand new shoes adorn his feet. Mother and father also want shoes, a big house, nice holidays… With every new wish, Jacob becomes more unhappy, the parents become more dissatisfied, the fish becomes thinner and thinner and the sea rougher and rougher – until a great storm takes everything away.

Composer Leonard Evers wrote Goud! in 2012, to a libretto by Flora Verbrugge. They based themselves on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Evers composed exciting music on various percussion instruments, such as a marimba, a vibraphone, cymbals and drums. All instruments that echo the sounds of the sea and the fish. A singer and a percussionist play, sing and make music and bring the story to life on stage.

What is a normal wish and what is boundless greed? And what effect does our greed have on nature? Serious questions for a children's opera. Yet Gold! not heavy handed. Humour, poetry and music make this opera an adventure for young and old.

The opera lasts about one hour, without intermission and is performed in Dutch.
