Antonio Vivaldi and Joseph Haydn have distinguished themselves, each in their own way, as masters of musical moods - not only their depictions of the seasons bear witness to this. At the Good Friday concert in Grafenegg, Fabio Biondi, founder and director of the original sound ensemble Europa Galante, and the Tonkunstler Orchestra demonstrate how artfully the two composers knew how to express feelings such as sadness and pain. The two of them probably never met in person, but according to the parish register of St. Stephen, Haydn was one of six choirboys who embellished the final escort of the impoverished Vivaldi at a funeral mass in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral.
