The composer Sergio Menozzi delivers a very personal version of Hänsel and Gretel , the opera-tale with Wagnerian accents that Engelbert Humperdinck drew from this legend with a thousand reinventions, the best known being that of the Grimm brothers. Hansel, Gretel…Indeed, puts the children back at the heart of the story by bringing the attention to Gretel, whose ruse overcomes the evil fairy. Restoring to the work the contours of the family entertainment that it was originally, Menozzi notably replaced the initial romantic orchestra with a sextet for flute, clarinet, horn, violin, cello and piano. Here all the roles are given to children in a score transposed for the young voices of the Maîtrise de l'Opéra de Lyon under the direction of Karine Locatelli. The staging is entrusted to Samuel Achache, Molière of the musical show in 2013 for Le Crocodile Trompeur/Didon et Aeneas , who infuses this production with the fears and intelligence of childhood.
