Hunger and sadness reign in the Besenbinder household: Hansel and Gretel have neglected their household chores and then smashed a valuable pot of milk in a scuffle. As punishment, the mother sends her out into the forest to find something to eat. However, the father knows that there is nothing to get and also who is lurking there: the crispy witch! She likes to catch children and eat them. Before the parents find their children again, they have already fallen for the witch's sugary promises. But clever as they are, they stick together and soon the witch herself is in the oven instead of her. In the end, children and parents are happily reunited - but nothing has really changed in the initial situation with hunger. Or is it?

Im Hause Besenbinder regieren Hunger und Tristesse: Hänsel und Gretel haben ihre Hausarbeiten vernachlässigt und dann auch noch im Gerangel einen wertvollen Topf Milch zerdeppert. Zur Strafe schickt die Mutter sie raus in den Wald um dort etwas Essbares zu finden. Der Vater weiß jedoch, dass es da nichts zu holen gibt und auch, wer dort lauert: die Knusperhexe! Sie fängt sich gerne Kinder und frisst sie auf. Bevor die Eltern ihre Kinder wiederfinden, sind diese auch schon den zuckrigen Versprechungen der Hexe auf den Leim gegangen. Doch schlau wie sie sind, halten sie zusammen und bald steckt statt ihrer die Hexe selbst im Ofen. Am Ende sind Kinder und Eltern wieder glücklich vereint – aber so richtig was verändert hat sich nichts an der Ausgangssituation mit dem Hunger. Oder doch?
