For years, the towns of Meersum and Ölsum have been competing for the first prize for the highest art of brewing, which Horst Flens from Ölsum has always been able to win. This year, too, his victory is as good as certain. On the other hand, the chances of success for the brewing trials of the Meersum couple Letty and Max Fisch are as bleak as their beer. But the ambitious Letty has an idea: why not ask the monk Theophil, who has moved to the Protestant north, he may have a solution ready. So Letty quickly confesses her sins to the zealous monk. In return, he reveals an old secret recipe. Anyone who brews it gets the best-tasting barley juice of all time, which also never runs dry.
So you meet in the evening to brew the free beer in the Wolf's Bay. The beer succeeds and it tastes wonderful. Does this mean that the people from Meersum have the chance to win the competition for the first time?

Seit Jahren liegen die Ortschaften Meersum und Ölsum im Wettstreit um den ersten Preis für die höchste Braukunst, den bis jetzt immer der Horst Flens aus Ölsum für sich gewinnen konnte. Auch in diesem Jahr ist sein Sieg so gut wie sicher. Dagegen sind die Erfolgsaussichten für die Brauversuche des Meersumer Ehepaares Letty und Max Fisch eher trübe wie ihr Bier. Doch die ehrgeizige Letty hat eine Idee: Warum nicht den Mönch Theophil fragen, der in den protestantischen Norden gezogen ist, womöglich hat er eine Lösung parat. So beichtet Letty ganz schnell dem eifrigen Mönch ihre Sünden. Im Gegenzug gibt er ein altes Geheimrezept preis. Wer danach braut, erhält den wohlschmeckendsten Gerstensaft aller Zeiten, der zudem niemals versiegt.
So trifft man sich am Abend zum Brauen des Freibiers in der Wolfsbucht. Das Bier gelingt und es mundet wunderbar. Haben damit erstmals die Meersumer die Chance, den Wettbewerb für sich zu entscheiden?
