Rossini composed this work in just two weeks, when he was only 26 years old, taking inspiration from one of Beaumarchais's short stories and becoming, very quickly, a landmark of bel canto. The original title of the paper was "Almaviva, o sia l'inutile precauzione".
The premiere of the opera took place on February 20, 1816, at the Teatro Argentina in Rome and, over time, gained the reputation of "the buffoon opera of all buff operas", becoming a masterpiece of the genre and a much-loved production. The action takes place in Seville (Spain), in the middle of the 18th century, its characters (Figaro, Rosina, Count Almaviva) being very popular.
Here is Figaro, the most famous barber in Seville, a factotum and a good supporter of Count Almaviva. However, the Count is not concerned with his appearance: he wants Figaro to help him win Rosina's heart. If it weren't for Dr. Bartolo, Rosina's guardian, who "loved" her rather large fortune… and courtesy her assiduously. To this end, he hired Don Basilio, a music teacher, as an accomplice, who did nothing but cause chaos!
