Opera in three acts to a libretto by Cesare Sterbini, after the play Le Barbier de Séville by Pierre Beaumarchais One of the most comical, animated and anticipated operas ever written, Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, always creates a good mood in our theater, being greeted, at each performance, with thunderous applause from the Cluj audience. The show brings Figaro back into the limelight, the humorous, brave and romantic Spanish barber who adds charm to the love story between the restless Count Almaviva and the beautiful Rosina. Gioachino Rossini's creation registered a resounding success right from its absolute premiere in 1816, when it was presented under the original, suggestive title, "Almaviva" ( Unnecessary precaution ). The Merry Barber still headlines opera houses around the world today. In the charming and colorful Seville of the 18th century, Figaro is the barber loved by the whole town, who helps fulfill the great love between Rosina and Count Almaviva. The challenge is great, however, because the beautiful Rosina is also desired by her old guardian, Bartolo, who has the advantage of the help of Basilio, the young woman's music master. The amorous and comic atmosphere of the opera is given by the multiple tricks used by Count Almaviva and Figaro to approach the beautiful beloved and declare their love. The final scene, in which Figaro and the Count break into Rosina's house in the middle of the night, climbing the ladder leaning against her balcony, is what gives the three-act bufe masterpiece an even more passionate breath. Rosina's heart knows full joy when Almaviva offers her love, fortune and name on his knees. Professor Basilio, bribed by Bartolo's adversaries, who witnesses the marriage between the lovers, also takes part in the fiery declaration. The old and frowning Bartolo arrives too late to stop the union and is consoled only by Almaviva's renunciation of Rosina's dowry, which will remain his.
