In her programme Mirrors, the exceptional and vivacious singer from Trinidad and Tobago Jeanine De Bique presents arias sung by strong, courageous and passionately loving women. Famous Handel arias, for example from Rodelinda, are mirrored in lesser-known arias by other composers who have interpreted the same figure or emotional situation. Multifaceted reflections beam out from the same character, as if visualised through a cracked mirror. The arias tell of crucial moments in the psychological development of the operatic heroines and cast light on the emotional diversity of female experience.The spirited exceptional singer from Trinidad and Tobago Jeanine de Bique presents in her program Mirrors arias of strong, courageous and loving female characters. Well-known Handel arias are mirrored with less familiar arias by other composers who take on the same character or emotional situation. In the process, wide-ranging reflections on the same character unfold, as if they were seen through a broken mirror. The arias tell of decisive moments in the psychological development of the opera heroines and shed light on the emotional diversity of female experience. "It seems as if everything that has shaped me as a person and musician so far has given me the means to meet the musical and emotional demands of the program," says De Bique, whose full and beautiful voice has undreamt-of expressive possibilities. Mirrors is therefore also a very personal program. Together with Concerto Köln, De Bique leads us into charming-sounding soul spaces in which human feeling and musical beauty reflect each other.
