A sparkling, lively gala concert with often unheard, yet enormously vital and colorful orchestral music. Exactly 250 years after the founding of the Johann André publishing house, the city of Offenbach - this evening a guest at the Alte Oper - is devoting an extensive series of events to a unique collection of historical first editions, which is in a sense a time capsule of high-quality and yet often forgotten music. The André archive brings together almost 18,000 sheet music editions and not only reflects the respectable cultural history of the city and region, it is also one of the most valuable collections of its kind nationally and internationally. 79 works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart alone were first printed by André in Offenbach. The Capitol Symphony Orchestra will be bringing with them this evening the most successful overture by the second publisher, Johann Anton André, his gripping concert piece to the Kotzebue drama "The Hussites at Naumburg" as well as a sparkling, effective version of the symphonies published by André by the director of the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra, Paul Wranitzky. He was a personal friend of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. The Mozart bassoon concerto, first published by André, is played by an absolutely charismatic musician, the former principal bassoonist of the Frankfurt Opera, Lola Descours. In the middle of the 19th century, the André company opened a branch on Frankfurt's Zeil called 'Haus Mozart', which was given up in 1872 in exchange for the 'Haus Beethoven' on Steinweg. The André publishing house naturally also felt a strong attachment to its second business location. For example, in the 1920s it published the fashionable one-step 'In Frankfurt on the Zeil' and the official theme song for the world event of the Frankfurt International Aviation Exhibition in 1909. The people of Offenbach, and in particular the Andrés, care about good neighbourliness. And Johann Anton André was one of the three musical experts for the construction of what was then the most famous German organ in Frankfurt's Paulskirche. It goes without saying that Frankfurt and Offenbach residents must celebrate together in the living room of Frankfurt's classical music.
