La Bayadère is one of the most popular ballets of classical heritage. A love story told by quivering dance duets and pantomime dialogues, extended corps de ballet ensembles and spectacular dances of soloists. A colorful large-scale canvas woven with the most complex choreographic text, La Bayadère is an exam for professionalism, ballerina and premiere brilliance and acting skills for performers. Marius Petipa composed this performance in 1877 for the benefit performance of the virtuoso Ekaterina Vazem, trying to present the talent of his beloved ballerina as fully and in a worthy setting.
Petipa composed the dance poem based on the story of the love of a noble Indian warrior and a temple dancer. Exotic flavor became the key to entertainment, and the melodramatic story of deceived love, typical of the theatrical scene of the mid-19th century, unpretentious in verbal presentation, was filled with depth, nuances, and generalizations in Petipa's choreographic revelations. Over time, the design of the performance changed, built by the choreographer's ingenious flair, who knew how to mix the ceremonial divertissement of a palace holiday and the piercing anguish of the tragic monologue of an abandoned heroine in the right proportion, the intense emotionality of a pantomime depiction of earthly events and the detachment of classical dance in the realm of shadows.
In the 20th century, La Bayadère "lost weight" by an entire act - the rationalism of the Soviet worldview rejected the simple-minded sham depiction of retribution for perjury, and with the final collapse of the palace, the dramatic and dance denouement disappeared from the performance. The realities of the theatrical 19th century that remained in the ballet, plush tigers and elephants on wheels, today look touchingly amusing, but their unpretentious specificity sets off the timeless harmony of the act of shadows, Petipa's enchanting masterpiece, in which his genius was closer than ever to the absolute. «Баядерка» – один из самых популярных балетов классического наследия. История любви, рассказанная трепетными танцевальными дуэтами и пантомимными диалогами, развернутыми кордебалетными ансамблями и эффектными танцами солистов. Красочное масштабное полотно, сотканное сложнейшим хореографическим текстом, «Баядерка» – это экзамен на профессионализм, балеринский и премьерский блеск и актерское мастерство для исполнителей. Мариус Петипа сочинил этот спектакль в 1877 году для бенефиса виртуозки Екатерины Вазем, стараясь максимально полно и в достойной оправе представить талант своей любимой балерины.
Танцевальную поэму Петипа складывал исходя из сюжета о любви знатного индийского воина и храмовой танцовщицы. Экзотический колорит стал залогом зрелищности, а мелодраматичная история обманутой любви, типичная для театральной сцены середины XIX века, незатейливая в словесном изложении, в хореографических откровениях Петипа наполнилась глубиной, нюансами, обобщениями. Cо временем изменилась конструкция спектакля, выстроенная гениальным чутьем хореографа, который умел в нужной пропорции смешивать парадную дивертисментность дворцового праздника и пронзительный надрыв трагического монолога покинутой героини, напряженную эмоциональность пантомимного изображения земных событий и отстраненность классического танца в царстве теней.
В ХХ веке «Баядерка» «похудела» на целый акт – рационализм советского взгляда на мир отверг простодушно бутафорское изображение возмездия за клятвопреступничество, а с финальным крушением дворца из спектакля исчезла и драматургическая и танцевальная развязка. Оставшиеся в балете реалии театрального XIX века, плюшевые тигры и слоны на колесиках, сегодня выглядят умилительно забавно, но их незатейливая конкретика оттеняет вневременную гармонию акта теней, чарующего шедевра Петипа, в котором его гений как никогда был близок к абсолюту.
