One of the most played operas in the world, included in the strict canon, from the very beginning it aroused powerful emotions, causing tears of emotion on the viewers' faces. When watched for the first time, it is a story of innocent love and sadness after losing a loved one and youth, in subsequent scenes discovering deep emotional meanings hidden in symbolic stage gestures. Puccini himself, when he played the moving chords of the main character's death, was so deeply moved as if he had lost the essence closest to him. This is what the timeless power of the message of "Bohemia" consists of - regardless of age and experience - it identifies the listener with the characters of the drama. Youth, courage, passion and great love meet here, and all of them are idealized by the incomparable music of Puccini.

STORY
The plot of "La Bohème" is presented in the form of four pictures, which are also independent scenes in terms of composition, with a clear center of gravity. The touching Mimì and the romantic Rodolfo as well as the unpredictable Musetta and the impetuous Marcello are two couples whose fates constitute two compositional axes. The main plot - the love story of the poor embroiderer Mimì suffering from tuberculosis and the poet Rudolf - takes place on the stage of Paris in the first half of the 19th century. The opera's libretto, based on Henri Murger's Scenes from the Life of Bohemia, perfectly reflects the political background of post-revolution France and the mood of discontent among the poorest social strata, where young artists live on the verge of poverty.

STAGING
In the implementation of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, the action of "Bohemia" was moved to the 1930s. It is the period of the greatest flourishing of contemporary art. Paris is becoming a Mecca for painters seeking artistic fulfillment and the possibility of practicing art free from all canons. The artistic studio La Ruche became the direct inspiration for the scenography - a building located in the Montparnasse district, where the greatest painters of the 20th century, belonging to the "Paris School", created their works. In the visual aspect, the staging refers to the classics of French cinema of the 1930s, exposing the mysterious atmosphere of Marcel Carné or René Clair's films. Despite the shift in action, the performance remains faithful to the libretto that recreates timeless psychological human reactions in the face of love and death.
