Leonora was known as an actor in many political intrigues, but in the end she found the selfless love of the monastery novice Ferdinand - who even left the monastic life because of her. Dej štvordejstvovej ranoromantickej talianskej opery je zasadený do Španielska roku 1340. Ústrednou postavou je reálna historická postava Leonora de Guzman, milenka kráľa Alfonza XI. Jej život dodnes obklopuje mnoho mýtov a zrejme práve preto sa stala vhodným dramatickým námetom opery. Leonora bola známa ako aktérka mnohých politických intríg, no napokon našla nezištnú lásku kláštorného novica Ferdinanda - ten kvôli nej dokonca opustil mníšsky život. Leonora však naplno pocítila, že osudu kráľovej favoritky sa nedá len tak uniknúť...

Opera, v ktorej proti sebe stoja osud jednotlivca a osud krajiny, politická a cirkevná moc, či kresťanská a moslimská kultúra mala premiéru v roku 1840 v Paríži. To, že ide o dielo mimoriadnych kvalít skonštatoval i slávny dirigent Arturo Toscanini: „Celé je to krásne, ale posledné dejstvo – každá nota je majstrovským dielom!“ V Štátnej opere Favoritku uvádzame v hudobnom naštudovaní Jána Procházku a v réžii debutujúceho Pavla Viechu.
