Forty musicians aged between ten and 22 , some with disabilities , social problems and/or learning disabilities , ready to get involved and face the "La Traviata" challenge.
On Sunday 6 August , at 9pm in the Cloister of the Sacred Heart Institute of Bitonto , the MusicaInGioco youth orchestra will perform Verdi's opera, proposed as the highlight of the 20th edition of the Bitonto Opera Festival .
The children and young people will be directed by maestro Andrea Gargiulo , teacher of the Bari Conservatory and soul of the project inspired by "El Sistema", the extraordinary educational and musical model, created in Venezuela by José Antonio Abreu.
« MusicaInGioco was born in 2010 as a social project, withthe aim of makingmusic a right for everyone– says Gargiulo –. Today we can say that we have largely managed to realize our idea, that is, that music should not necessarily be experienced as a profession, but also as an opportunity to search for oneself and to try to transform oneself. An opportunity offered above all by orchestral performance which in itself is magic and sociability. "
Many young people who, thanks to the presence of various groups in all the provinces of Puglia, were able to receive an instrument on loan for free and freely follow the lessons offered by the association's volunteers.
« Access to the orchestras is not done through selections, but priority is given to children in areas of fragility or with different abilities. And then, until we fill the possible number, we accept anyone » continues Gargiulo.
In 2017, MusicaInGioco won the “Urbact” Award as the best European social musical practice and, over the course of these first thirteen years, it has been paid attention to by Universities all over the world, to verify the results both in the field of social soft skills and on facing diversity.
« We are certain that the public will appreciate the beauty, the music and the sociality on Sunday too » concludes Gargiulo.
