Adolphe Adam’s runaway comedic smash hit returns to the stage of Paris's Opéra Comique, where it premiered nearly 200 years ago! In this 2019 production led by stage director Michel Fau and music director Sébastien Rouland, the three-act comic opera that made its composer an international celebrity—absent from Paris stages since 1894—thrills audiences once more! 

Immediately after his wedding to pretty Lonjumeau innkeeper Madeleine, the young coachman Chapelou’s beautiful singing voice is “discovered” by the visiting Paris Opera director, and he is transported away to become a star in the big city. His feisty Madeleine is in shock, but remains determined to get her future husband back. 10 years later they meet once more, and delightful hilarity ensues.
