Créé à Louisville en 1955.
Version définitive créée à Salzbourg en 1957. En partenariat avec la Librairie Mollat

C’est la manière dont Louis Jouvet et son décorateur Christian Bérard s’étaient emparés du chef-d’œuvre de Molière qui a poussé Rolf Liebermann à mettre en musique L’Ecole des femmes.
Créé en 1955 sur un livret du grand dramaturge allemand Heinrich Strobel, l’opéra — mettant en scène Molière lui-même venu assister à une représentation de sa pièce au XXe siècle ! — traduit l’extraordinaire inspiration du compositeur pour qui le genre lyrique se doit de dépasser le divertissement en invitant chacun à la réflexion, à la contestation, à l’interrogation profonde de notre présent.
La mise en scène d’Eric Génovèse, sociétaire de la Comédie française et ardent « moliériste », ajoute à l’intérêt de cette production, musicalement emmenée par l’exigeant Jurjen Hempel. Cet opéra est capté par France Musique le 28 novembre et sera diffusé le 29 janvier 2011 à 19h05.

It was the way in which Louis Jouvet and his decorator Christian Bérard seized on Molière's masterpiece that prompted Rolf Liebermann to set L'Ecole des femmes to music .
Created in 1955 to a libretto by the great German playwright Heinrich Strobel, the opera — featuring Molière himself who came to attend a performance of his play in the 20th century! — translates the extraordinary inspiration of the composer for whom the lyrical genre must go beyond entertainment by inviting everyone to reflect, to contest, to deeply question our present.
The staging by Eric Génovèse, a member of the Comédie Française and an ardent "Molierist", adds to the interest of this production, musically led by the demanding Jurjen Hempel. This opera is recorded byFrance Musique on November 28 and will be broadcast on January 29, 2011 at 7:05 p.m.
