Once a week the "Spanish Hour" strikes in Concepción. While her husband, the watchmaker Torquemada, is away, she meets her lover Gonzalve. This time, however, three men - Ramiro, Gonzalve and Don Inigo - are courting her. Concepción takes turns hiding them in the grandfather clocks that she has carried into her bedroom – always worried about the “mechanism of the pendulum”... The first stage work by the French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) is a comedic masterpiece full of erotic allusions and situation comedy. The music of Ravel - who also created the famous "Boléro" - ignites a real firework of Spanish local color and esprit.


His opera “The Child and the Magic Spooky”, which premiered in 1925, was completely different: in it, a child who is being punished by its mother takes out its anger on the animals and the furniture. But as if in a nightmare, the damaged objects suddenly come to life and rebel against the child... Based on the libretto by the author Colette, Ravel created a chamber opera with filigree, almost magical orchestral sounds, in which menacingly gloomy and comic scenes alternate.


Tibor Torell, who recently demonstrated his sense of humor with "News from the Day", develops a double evening full of absurdly funny, poetic and (alb -) dreamlike moments. At the same time, the new General Music Director Daniel Carter has the opportunity to work with all members of the opera ensemble at his first opera premiere.
