Opera appositamente ridotta per avvicinare e far conoscere il mondo della lirica ad un pubblico di bambini e ragazzi, in cui cantanti e orchestra interagiscono con la platea che partecipa attivamente cantando alcune arie.
Con questo progetto si vuole celebrare Wagner nel bicentenario della sua nascita, avvicinando il giovane pubblico al lavoro così intrigante e complesso del compositore tedesco.
La ricorrenza wagneriana rappresenta un ricco spunto per i progetti di Opera Education dei tre teatri promotori, che per la prima volta in Europa proporranno sia un’opera di Wagner per i ragazzi, creando una vera e propria occasione di approccio alla lirica per il pubblico, sia un’occasione per entrare e di entrare nel mondo del lavoro per i giovani artisti: dalla creazione artistica quindi, al backstage per arrivare alla platea!
Un’opera di 170 anni, messa in scena di nuovo a 200 anni dalla nascita del suo compositore e interamente allestita da artisti e giovani intorno ai 30 anni, l’età dello stesso Wagner che la diresse nel suo debutto del 1843.
TRAMA rielaborata
Senta è una giovane ragazza piena di sogni di avventura e fiabe. Durante una vacanza nella casa del nonno, vecchio capitano della Marina, decide di avventurarsi per le stanze della vecchia casa per sfuggire alla noia di una sera d’estate. Arrivata alla soffitta, dopo aver aperto la porta scricchiolante, scopre una mucchietto di vecchi oggetti ricoperti da coperte impolverate. Senta viene subito attratta da un vecchio fonografo, oggetto a lei completamente sconosciuto; si avvicina e tenta di farlo funzionare e si meraviglia per la dolce musica che l’apparecchio emette. Presa dalle note di questa musica magica, si lascia trasportare nella storia, e incomincia ad inventarsi una storia di marinai, oceani e capitani  travestendosi con un vecchio cappello e una leggera sottoveste rossa. Frugando tra gli oggetti abbandonati, trova un ritratto e un medaglione che rappresenta un giovane capitano. Affascinata dalla scoperta, indossa il medaglione e, sfinita, si sdraia su una poltrona in un angolo della soffitta. Ai margini di quest’epoca lontana, Senta si addormenta e la sua fervida immaginazione parte alla scoperta degli oceani in compagnia del giovane capitano…
…Mentre scoppia la tempesta e si alza il vento, le vele incominciano ad ondeggiare, si spiegano e si ripiegano furiosamente. L’equipaggio dei marinai norvegesi avanza. Il loro capitano, Daland, sale sul ponte della nave e parla con il Timoniere: a loro fa eco  la ciurma della nave che fatica per attraccare a riva. Una volta a terra, i marinai e il Timoniere si addormentano, mentre Daland parte in esplorazione. Appare in lontananza un vascello, che immerso in un’atmosfera quasi fantasma, cerca un approdo sicuro. È l’Olandese con il suo equipaggio maledetto. L’Olandese intona il suo canto, raccontando la sua sventura e mostrando gli inutili tesori raccolti durante i suoi insensati viaggi. 
Scorto in lontananza un vascello sconosciuto, Daland sveglia il Timoniere per sapere a chi appartiene la nave. Non ottenendo risposta, interroga l’equipaggio; poi preoccupati, insieme urlano in direzione del vascello in attesa di una risposta. Nel loro incontro, l’Olandese accende l’avidità di Daland evocando i suoi tesori e si dichiara pronto a liberarsi di oro e gioielli in cambio di una fanciulla come sposa. Daland pensa allora alla giovane Senta, sua figlia che lo aspetta a casa filando e raccontando storie… D’improvviso arriva un vento violento che gonfia le vele e trascina l’equipaggio in un vigoroso balletto. Entrambi i vascelli possono ripartire alla volta delle coste norvegesi.
A casa, la vecchia Mary e le filatrici lavorano alacremente, mentre la giovane Senta con il medaglione intorno al collo gironzola qua e la osservando le filatrici con aria distratta e perdendosi nei suoi sogni. Mary rimprovera Senta di non prendere esempio dalle ragazze, che, dal canto loro, prendono in giro Senta per le  sue fantasie. La ragazza racconta alle ragazze dell’uomo che riempie i suoi sogni di cui ha sentito la leggenda della maledizione. Arriva Eric, giovane ragazzo innamorato da sempre della bella Senta che annuncia l’arrivo di due vascelli, le filatrici si accalcano al porto mentre Eric prende da parte Senta per dichiarargli ancora una volta il suo amore e ricordarle la promessa di fidanzamento che si erano fatti. Senta rimane da sola e turbata: pensa ancora all’Olandese.
L’Olandese sbarca con Daland e subito si imbatte in Senta, mentre ad alta voce giura fedeltà al suo amore immaginario. Sentendo le parole di devozione di Senta, il marinaio misterioso si mostra alla ragazza e le rivela la promessa fatta dal padre. Daland li raggiunge e, appresa la notizia dell’amore dei due, propone una festa per celebrare il ritorno dei marinai ed il loro fidanzamento. Mentre i festeggiamenti si protraggono e gli invitati incominciano a disperdersi, Eric si rifiuta di rinunciare all’amore di Senta e tenta ancora di convincerla a rompere la promessa di matrimonio e di riflettere sulla promessa di fedeltà che gli ha fatto.
L’Olandese, ancora una volta nell’ombra, ascolta la conversazione. Credendo di essere stato di nuovo tradito, si convince che non potrà essere salvato dall’amore di Senta e interviene nella discussione rompendo il fidanzamento. Non volendo essere la sua rovina e sapendo di essere irrimediabilmente legato al mare, decide di ripartire. Senta tenta di trattenerlo pregandolo di non dubitare dei suoi sentimenti, seguita da Eric che la segue scongiurandola di rimettersi con lui. Mentre il vascello sparisce in lontananza, Senta si alza dalla poltrona, medaglione alla mano, dichiarando che sarà per sempre fedele all’Olandese Volante. Senta perde l’equilibrio e cade dalla poltrona mentre pronuncia queste ultime parole…
Con il ricordo del suo amore, si sveglia frastornata nella soffitta del nonno, attorniata dai vecchi oggetti.

Specially reduced work to bring the world of opera closer to an audience of children and teenagers, in which singers and orchestra interact with the audience who actively participate by singing some arias.
With this project we want to celebrate Wagner on the bicentenary of his birth, bringing young audiences closer to the intriguing and complex work of the German composer.
The Wagnerian anniversary represents a rich starting point for the Opera Education projects of the three promoter theatres, which for the first time in Europe will offer both a Wagner opera for children, creating a real opportunity for the public to approach opera, is an opportunity for young artists to enter and enter the world of work: from artistic creation then, to backstage to get to the audience!
A 170-year-old work, staged again 200 years after the birth of its composer and entirely staged by artists and young people around 30, the age of Wagner himself who conducted it in his 1843 debut.
PLOT reworked
Senta is a young girl full of dreams of adventure and fairy tales. During a holiday in her grandfather's house, an old Navy captain, she decides to venture into the rooms of the old house to escape the boredom of a summer evening. She arrived at the attic, after opening the creaking door, she discovers a pile of old objects covered with dusty blankets. Senta is immediately attracted by an old phonograph, an object completely unknown to her; she approaches and tries to make it work and marvels at the sweet music that the device emits. Taken by the notes of this magical music, she lets herself be carried away in history, and begins to invent a story of sailors, oceans and captains by disguising herself in an old hat and a light red petticoat. Rummaging through abandoned objects, find a portrait and medallion representing a young captain. Fascinated by her discovery, she wears the locket and, exhausted, she lies down in an armchair in a corner of the attic. On the edge of this distant era, Senta falls asleep and her fervent imagination is part of her discovering the oceans in the company of the young captain…
…As the storm breaks and the wind picks up, the sails begin to flap, unfurl and fold furiously. The crew of Norwegian sailors advance. Their captain, Daland, climbs onto the deck of the ship and speaks to the Helmsman: the crew of the ship echoes them as they struggle to moor ashore. Once ashore, the sailors and the Helmsman fall asleep, while Daland sets out to explore. A vessel appears in the distance, which, immersed in an almost ghostly atmosphere, is looking for a safe landing place. It's the Dutchman with his cursed crew. The Dutchman sings her song, recounting her misfortune and showing the useless treasures collected during her senseless travels. 
Spotting an unknown vessel in the distance, Daland wakes the Helmsman to find out who owns the ship. Getting no answer, he interrogates the crew; then worried, together they shout in the direction of the vessel waiting for an answer. In their meeting, the Dutchman ignites Daland's greed by summoning his treasures and declares himself ready to free himself of gold and jewels in exchange for a maiden as a bride. Daland then thinks of the young Senta, his daughter who is waiting for him at home, spinning and telling stories… Suddenly a violent wind blows up, billowing the sails and dragging the crew into a vigorous dance. Both vessels can leave again for the Norwegian coast.
At home, the old Mary and the spinners work hard, while the young Senta with the medallion around her neck wanders here and there observing the spinners with a distracted air and getting lost in her dreams. Mary scolds Senta for not taking an example from the girls, who, for their part, tease Senta for her fantasies. The girl tells the girls about the man she fills her dreams about her that she has heard the legend of the curse. Eric arrives, a young boy who has always been in love with the beautiful Senta who announces the arrival of two vessels, the spinners crowd at the port while Eric takes Senta aside to declare once again her love for her and remind her of the engagement promise that they had done. Senta remains alone and disturbed: she still thinks of the Dutchman.
The Dutchman disembarks with Daland and immediately runs into Senta as he loudly swears allegiance to his imaginary love. Hearing Senta's words of devotion, the mysterious sailor shows himself to the girl and reveals her father's promise to her. Daland joins them and, hearing the news of the love between the two, proposes a party to celebrate the return of the sailors and their engagement. As the festivities drag on and the guests begin to disperse, Eric refuses to give up on Senta's love and still tries to get her to break her promise of marriage and to reflect on her pledge of fidelity to her.
The Dutchman, once again in the shadows, listens to the conversation. Believing that he has been betrayed again, he becomes convinced that he cannot be saved by Senta's love and intervenes in the discussion by breaking off the engagement. Not wanting to be his ruin and knowing that he is irretrievably linked to the sea, he decides to leave again. Senta tries to hold him back by begging him not to doubt her feelings, followed by Eric following her about her begging her to get back together with him. As the vessel fades into the distance, Senta rises from his chair, locket in her hand, declaring that she will forever be loyal to the Flying Dutchman. Senta loses her balance and falls off the armchair as she says these last words…
With the memory of her love, she wakes up dazed in her grandfather's attic, surrounded by old objects.
