Lucia murdered her husband on their wedding night. She loved someone else and still loves him - the one with whom she sees herself united at the peak of her madness and whom she wants to precede to death: Edgardo. But he is her brother's archenemy. Against the background of the disputes between Catholics and Protestants in Scotland in the 16th century, two families engage in a bitter struggle for honor, power and money. Lucia becomes a pawn in this private war. A politically advantageous marriage is planned for them. She agrees to the forced marriage. But the torment of how she is disposed of, how her brother's intrigues deny her humanity, and the unlived love for Edgardo finally not only breaks her heart, but also her soul.
