A long-loved tradition is
the festive start to the new year with
music by Johann Sebastian Bach. After
listening to the Violin Concerto BWV 1041
, Claude Debussy said that the sky
seemed bluer and that the Parthenon
was growing out of the earth. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was no less
impressed by the beauty of this music when he included his harpsichord concerto in his repertoire during the Bach Renaissance . Absolute audience favorites are Bach's Brandenburg Concertos - especially the fifth concerto, which is rightly called the "first piano concerto in history" and the third concerto, which impresses with the rhythmically artfully balanced equality of all string players . You can't start the new year musically with more elegance and verve !

Eine längst liebgewonnene Tradition ist
der festliche Auftakt zum neuen Jahr mit
Musik von Johann Sebastian Bach. Nach
dem Hören des Violinkonzertes BWV 1041
meinte Claude Debussy, dass der Himmel
ihm blauer erschien und der Parthenon aus
der Erde emporwachse. Nicht weniger be-
eindruckt von der Schönheit dieser Musik
war Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, als er
im Zuge der Bach-Renaissance dessen
Cembalokonzert in sein Repertoire auf-
nahm. Absolute Publikumslieblinge sind
Bachs Brandenburgische Konzerte – allen
voran das fünfte Konzert, das zu Recht als
»erstes Klavier konzert der Geschichte«
bezeichnet wird und das dritte Konzert,
das durch die rhythmisch kunstvoll aus-
tarierte Gleichberechtigung aller Streicher
besticht. Mit mehr Eleganz und Schwung
kann man das neue Jahr musikalisch nicht
beginnen!
