The Athens Philharmonic Orchestra began its journey with a tribute to the ancestor of Modern Greek Art Music, the Corfiot composer Nikolaos Halikiopoulos Mantzaros, entitled "Nikolaos Mantzaros and his Students".

In her first concert, which was given at the Art and Culture Center "Arteis" (Pythagoras 8, Alios), works by Mantzaros and two of his students, also Ionian composers were performed: the Corfiot Dosenikos Padokis (or Padovas ) .

The program included a cantata, a duet and four arias by Mantzaros, works of the period shortly before and during the Greek Revolution of 1821, which have never been performed in Athens before. In the second part was heard the introduction from the Opera House of Doenikos Padova, a very important composer who is little known today outside the circle of experts. Finally, the first modern Greek work in the category of program music and symphonic poetry would be heard, the work O Sint, by Dionysios Rodotheatos.

This is the beginning of a cultural initiative aimed at the execution and recording of important heritage works of Art of Modern Greek Music and gives the opportunity to the friends of art music to get acquainted with a series of works, which are unknown in the place where they were created.
