Opéra majeur du XIXe siècle, Norma s'est imposé comme l'une des plus parfaites expressions du bel canto. Le lyrisme déployé dans un juste équilibre entre musique et théâtre, alchimie parfaite entre décor classique et traitement musical romantique, ont fait de cet opéra un chef-d'œuvre absolu. Dans la Gaule romaine, la fille du grand prêtre Oroveso, Norma, a secrètement épousé le Proconsul romain Pollione qui lui a donné deux enfants. Ce dernier lui préfère désormais Adalgisa. Désespérée, Norma avoue sa faute et est condamnée, comme Pollione, au bûcher. La célébrissime invocation à la lune Casta diva souligne le caractère passionné de l'héroïne qui sera interprétée par Elza van den Heever (Idomeneo, Ariane à Naxos, Alcina, Anna Bolena) qui chantera pour la première fois ce rôle mythique, dans la mise en scène de Christopher Alden .

A major opera of the 19th century, Norma has established itself as one of the most perfect expressions of bel canto . The lyricism deployed in the right balance between music and theatre, the perfect alchemy between classical decor and romantic musical treatment, have made this opera an absolute masterpiece. In Roman Gaul, the daughter of the high priest Oroveso, Norma, secretly married the Roman Proconsul Pollione who bore her two children. The latter now prefers Adalgisa. Desperate, Norma confesses her fault and is condemned, like Pollione, to the stake. The famous invocation to the moon Casta diva underlines the passionate character of the heroine who will be interpreted by Elza van den Heever (Idomeneo, Ariane à Naxos, Alcina, Anna Bolena ) who will sing this mythical role for the first time, in the staging by Christopher Alden .
