Premier grand succès d’Offenbach, Orphée aux Enfers brille tant par la verve satirique de son livret que par la qualité de la partition. Parodie savoureuse de la légende antique, on y trouve déjà tous les ingrédients du succès (citations, musique brillante, situations cocasses…) annonçant La Belle Hélène, La Vie parisienne ou encore La Périchole. La mise en scène est confiée à Laura Scozzi, laquelle signe aussi celle de La Flûte enchantée proposée aux mois de mai et juin.

Offenbach's first great success, Orpheus in the Underworld shines as much for the satirical verve of its libretto as for the quality of the score. Tasty parody of the ancient legend, there are already all the ingredients for success (quotes, brilliant music, comical situations…) announcing La Belle Hélène , La Vie parisienne or La Périchole . The staging is entrusted to Laura Scozzi, who also signs that of The Magic Flute proposed in May and June.
