"Clowns" (Italian: "Pagliacci") is a 2-act opera composed by Ruggiero Leoncavallo on his own libretto. The opera is one of the works that appear in the permanent repertoire of lyrical theaters. The opera premiered at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan on May 21, 1892. The play took place in the village of Montalto in Calabria (southern Italy) on August 15, 1865.
