1727, London: King George I is no more. His son automatically becomes George II, that year, his composer and friend Georg Friedrich Handel becomes English by decree.

Before the coronation, for which the Saxon composer will create his Hymns of the Coronation, Handel will offer one of the insignia ancestors of the new king, the favors of the stage. With Riccardo Primo, he will find a certain favor and will impose himself as composer of the Court.

A few years later, Georg Philip Telemann, then director of the prestigious Gänsmarktoper in Hamburg, adapted Riccardo Primo with additions of his own, including two comic roles.

For its third collaboration with the Telemann Zentrum and the Theater Magdeburg, Opera Fuoco is committed to the resurrection of this two-handed masterpiece. The argument against the backdrop of the Third Crusade, sees a Richard Coeur-de-Lion falling prey to the love and intrigues of the King of Cyprus Isacio.

This production will see an equal sharing of roles between the lyrical workshop of Opera Fuoco and the troupe of the Theater of Magdeburg, thus creating a synergy conducive to exchanges and a real partnership.

The collaboration with the Telemann Zentrum and The Theater Magdeburg will continue in 2020.
