Richard Goode è apprezzato per la sua musica dall’incredibile potere emozionale, profondità ed espressività ed è universalmente riconosciuto come uno dei maggiori interpreti del repertorio Classico e Romantico. Incide in esclusiva per Nonesuch e suona regolarmente nelle sale e nei festival internazionali più importanti come solista e con le maggiori orchestre.
Il Daily Telegraph ha scritto di lui: “Ci sono tra i pianisti giovani brillanti e vecchie glorie sapienti che mostrano la loro abilità con naturalezza in tutto quello che fanno, senza esibizionismi o virtuosismi elaborati. Richard Goode è uno di questi”.
Goode suona in recital ogni stagione alla Wigmore Hall di Londra e nei maggiori centri musicali europei, come Parigi, Lione, Verbier, Amsterdam, Budapest, Madrid, Stoccolma fra i molti. È stato ospite regolare del Festival di Edimburgo, del Kissinger Sommer Festival, del Piano aux Jacobins di Tolosa.
Goode ha suonato con tutte le maggiori orchestre negli USA e con moltissime orchestre europee.
Ha registrato più di due dozzine di dischi nel corso degli anni, sia di piano solo che di musica da camera e con orchestra. La sua ultima incisione è stata quella dei cinque Concerti con orchestra di Beethoven con la Budapest Festival Orchestra e Iván Fischer, che ha avuto un’eccezionale accoglienza della critica che l’ha definita “una pietra miliare” (Financial Times) e ha ricevuto una nomina ai Grammy Awards. Nel 1993 aveva inciso – primo pianista americano a farlo – tutte le Sonate di Beethoven in dieci CD: il ciclo fu nominato ai Grammy, scelto dalla Gramophone Good CD Guide e ristampato nel 2017. Tra le tante registrazioni ricordiamo anche le Partite di J.S. Bach, il duo con la soprano Dawn Upshaw e i Concerti per pianoforte di Mozart con la Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Nato a New York, Goode ha studiato con Nadia Reisenberg al Mannes College of Music e con Rudolf Serkin al Curtis Institute. Ha vinto moltissimi premi nel corso della sua carriera, tra i quali il Young Concert Artists Award, il Primo Premio del Concorso Clara Haskil, l’Avery Fisher Prize, e un Premio Grammy. La sua prima esecuzione pubblica dell’integrale delle Sonate di Beethoven a New York durante la stagione 1987-88 fu lodata dal New York Times come “il più importante e memorabile evento di tutta la stagione” e fu ripetuta più tardi con enorme successo anche alla Queen Elizabeth Hall di Londra.
Goode è anche uno stimatissimo insegnante e mentore di giovani musicisti, e occupa la posizione di International Chair of Piano Studies alla Guildhall School of Music and Drama di Londra, è Visiting Professor alla Royal Academy of Music e alla Facoltà di Musica del Mannes College (New York). Tiene anche masterclass per istituzioni prestigiose, quali la Manhattan School of Music, la Verbier Festival Academy e la serie pubblica di masterclass della Wigmore Hall di Londra.

Richard Goode is recognized for his music of incredible emotional power, depth and expressiveness and is universally recognized as one of the major interpreters of the Classical and Romantic repertoire. Goode gives recitals each season at London's Wigmore Hall and in major European musical centres, such as Paris, Lyon, Verbier, Amsterdam, Budapest, Madrid, Stockholm, among many. He has been a regular guest at the Edinburgh Festival, the Kissinger Sommer Festival, the Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse.
Goode has performed with all major orchestras in the USA and with many European orchestras.
He has recorded more than two dozen records over the years, both of solo piano and of chamber and orchestral music. His latest recording was Beethoven's Five Concertos with Orchestra with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer, which had an outstanding critical reception calling it a “landmark” (Financial Times) and received a Grammy Award nomination. In 1993 he recorded - the first American pianist to do so - all of Beethoven's Sonatas on ten CDs: the cycle was nominated for a Grammy, chosen by the Gramophone Good CD Guide and reissued in 2017. Among the many recordings we also mention the Partitas by JS Bach, the duo with soprano Dawn Upshaw and Mozart's Piano Concertos with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
