Orchestra Le Poème Harmonique by Vincent Dumestre earned world recognition in 2000, opening to the public "court arias" by French composers of the turn of the 16th-17th centuries Pierre Guedron, Etienne Moulini and Charles Tessier.  
Fifteen years later, Vincent Dumester again turned to the "court arias." The album of the same name, recorded on the Alpha Classics label, includes works not only by Guedron, Moulini and Tessieres, but also earlier creations of arias by composers Fabrice-Marine Cayten, Didier Lablanc and Jean Boyer.

“Court arias” (airs de cour) is a genre popular with the French elite of the first half of the 17th century. "Court arias" sounded both in the royal palace and in the houses of the nobility. For example, the Guises, famous conquerors of art and poetry. So, for example, the composer Fabrice-Marin Kaiten served as choir director for Henry I de Guise and dedicated two collections of his "court arias" to the duke.

Most French "court arias" describe the anguish and suffering of love. “A cruel martyrdom makes me indifferent, but its cause is so beautiful that for its sake I am ready to experience death a hundred times, and I will not complain,” these are the lines from Gedron's aria Bien Qu'un Cruel Martire.

The tracklist of the album also contains the satirical aria Allons Vielle Imperfaite by an unknown author, addressed to a certain elderly lady - “useless”, “bearded”, “terrible” and “wrinkled”.

Today, Vincent Dumaistre, Le Poème Harmonique ensemble and a quartet of soloists will present the program "Court Arias" in the Zaryadye Hall.
