On June 12, 1942, Anne Frank received a small for her 13th birthday , diary bound in red and white fabric. It became of particular importance on July 6, 1942, the day on which the Jewish Frank family hid from the National Socialists in the rear building of the Prinsengracht 263 building in Amsterdam. Anne confided everything to the diary; she planned to do this after the Second World War under the title Das Hinterhausto publish. After their hiding place was betrayed in 1944, Anne and her family were deported. She died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. After the Frank family was arrested, their helper, Miep Gies, took the diary and kept it from being accessed by the Gestapo. After the war she handed it over to Anne's father Otto Frank, who was the only one who survived the war.

Grigori Frid's (1915-2012) mono-opera disturbingly describes the fears that Anne goes through, how she matures into a woman despite life-threatening circumstances, always keeping her humor and becoming more relaxed. She draws her unshakable optimism from her ability to process her situation in writing, from her love for her fellow fate Peter and from her observations of nature from the roof window of the rear building.
