Four-note opera – Moravian-Silesian National Theater (preview video)

Can an opera be written in four notes? The American composer Tom Johnson answered this question in the affirmative already in 1972. All he needed for this were the notes a, b, d, e, five soloists and a piano, and he created a successful, remarkable work that is still frequently performed around the world, full of intelligent humor arising from the music and the no less funny text connected with it. In the cast of this hour-long opera, the students of the vocal department at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava and the opera soloists of the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre, many of whom are also their pedagogues, will meet in alternations.

Může být opera napsána na čtyřech tónech? Na tuto otázku kladně odpověděl již v roce 1972 americký skladatel Tom Johnson. Stačily mu k tomu tóny a, b, d, e, pět sólistů a klavír a vzniklo úspěšné, dodnes po celém světě často uváděné pozoruhodné dílo, plné inteligentního humoru vycházejícího z hudby a s ní propojeného, neméně vtipného textu. V obsazení této hodinové opery se pak v alternacích potkají posluchači oboru zpěv na Fakultě umění Ostravské univerzity a sólisté opery Národního divadla moravskoslezského, z nichž mnozí jsou zároveň i jejich pedagogové.
