Have you always wanted to know what goes on in the heads of singers when they belt out their arias? Tom Johnson tells you. Instead of telling an opera story, in the "four-tone opera" he looks behind the masks of his protagonists and lets their thoughts run free: the tenor laments because he only has one aria, the mezzo-soprano is looking for her tone , the baritone keeps miscounting the breaks. The completely normal opera madness that Marie Christine Lüling stages as an everyday struggle for a singing career.

Statt eine Opernhandlung zu erzählen, blickt er in der „Vier-Ton-Oper“ hinter die Masken seiner Protagonistinnen und lässt ihren Gedanken freien Lauf: Der Tenor lamentiert, weil er nur eine Arie hat, die Mezzosopranistin ist auf der Suche nach ihrem Ton, der Bariton verzählt sich immer wieder bei den Pausen.
