9 concerts, 6,500 spectators and the sound that heralds Christmas for 60 years

- MADRIGAL -

Between December 4 and 20, 2022, the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" performed 9 shows that took place behind closed doors, as part of the national tour "On the way to Christmas", which took place in Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara, Craiova, Suceava, Iași and Bucharest. Special guests of the Madrigal Choir were the actors Ofelia Popii and Marius Turdeanu.

“Audiences once again greeted us with heart-warming enthusiasm across the country. It was a tour de force for us - we traveled 'The Christmas Road' nearly 3,000 kilometers to meet over 6,500 spectators. Almost 2,000 children from 50 choirs of the National Cantus Mundi Program took to the stages with the Madrigal Choir, which was a huge logistical effort for the organizing team and for the children who sometimes come from far away to meet their mentors. Our only regret is that we did not have the possibility to add shows for the countless requests of those who could no longer find tickets available. This tour was an exceptional debut of the Madrigal 60 years anniversary project!” - said Emil Pantelimon, the manager of the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" and the director of the show.

Children from the Cantus Mundi choirs from Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara, Craiova, Iași, Bucharest, Galați, Buzău, Pecica, Gurahonț, Argetoaia, Gherla, Turda, Fălticeni, Gura Humorului sang at the nine performances "On the way to Christmas" , Bâcu, Sărmașu, Miroslava and Chişinău – Republic of Moldova. The participation of children in the Cantus Mundi program is already a tradition of a decade and above all a constant reinforcement of the philosophy of mentoring and social inclusion that Madrigal promotes through its projects.

The national tour "On the way to Christmas" represents the first anniversary project in the series of events included in the "Madrigal 60" program, which will take place throughout 2023, when the "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" National Chamber Choir celebrates 60 years of existence uninterrupted.

Anna Ungureanu, the principal conductor of the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" and Cezar Verlan, the second conductor, prepared for "On the way to Christmas" a comprehensive repertoire, built around the meaning of Christmas, which created a dynamic emotional sequence between the sound unique of the ensemble and the texts performed by the two guests.
The direction and script of the Extraordinary Show "On the way to Christmas" are signed by Emil Pantelimon, and the scenography by Vladimir Turturica. The selection of dramatic texts was made by Mădălin Guruianu, with inserts from "Song of Songs", poems by Eugen Jebeleanu, Lucian Blaga and Costache Ioanid and texts signed by Khaled Hosseini, Saint Teresa of Avila and Paulo Coelho.

The extraordinary show "On the way to Christmas" will be broadcast on December 24, from 10:00 a.m., on the Europa FM radio station and, also on Christmas Eve, it will be able to be watched on Romanian Television, on the TVR Cultural channel.
