Austria, 1938: In the house of the widowed captain Georg von Trapp, discipline and order prevail, both for his seven children and for the staff. When the young novice Maria joins the Trapps as governess, she turns life upside down and shows them how music can enrich, change and - when the Nazis invade Austria - sometimes save lives.

As one of the most successful and representative musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein II, “The Sound of Music” picks up on the story of the “Trapp Family Singers” by Maria Augusta Trapp and has been an immortal Broadway success since its premiere in 1959. The 1965 film, which is extremely popular in the USA and directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews, has also made the idyllic scenery of Salzburg a world-famous tourist destination. "The Sound of Music" combines a romantic plot with a historical background and humorous dialogues with musical numbers of great catchy quality.

The musical director Bernd Mottl, who is celebrated all over Germany, stages this evening full of gorgeous songs like "Edelweiss" and "Über die Berge".
