Samara Opera and Ballet Theater presented "The Story of Kai and Gerda"

Even though Hans Christian Andersen is considered the main storyteller of Europe, one cannot say that he wrote only for children. Only when we grow up can we truly appreciate the filigree grace of his fairy tales. The stories he wrote are as tender as the sounds of violins and flutes, but from the pages of his books every now and then an icy Scandinavian wind blows. Andersen does not pretend that evil does not coexist with good in the world, that life goes on forever, but he shows how love, hope and faith make the existence of all living things worthless, be it people or rose bushes.

Andersen's stories deserve to be framed with the sound of an orchestra, because music, like these fairy tales, affects the listener's heart directly. And so the composer Sergei Banevich, together with the poet Tatyana Kalinina, wrote the opera "The Story of Kai and Gerda" based on the fairy tale "The Snow Queen". In it, love opposes the icy cold of soulless eternity. True selfless love, not just a desire to have someone in your possession.

Eternity and hundreds of stars is, of course, beautiful. But the soul is not warmed by the stars, but by the warmth of spring.
