Founded in 2012, the Vision String Quartet has established itself as one of the finest string quartets of its generation. Endowed with a singular versatility that concentrates on the classical quartet repertoire, alongside their own compositions and arrangements of other genres, the four young musicians aim to present the quartet formation in a different and very special perspective. The characteristic of playing standing up and often from memory gives a freer and more intimate dynamic to the performances and is widely appreciated by audiences and critics.
2016 was a year of great achievements for the Vision String Quartet, who won first prize and all the special prizes at both the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition in Berlin and the International Competition in Geneva. At the end of 2016 the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Würth Prize and the Audience Award at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. In 2018 he was also awarded the prestigious chamber music prize of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation.
The Quartet experiments with innovative concert formats which it has brought to major concert halls, such as Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Philharmonie Luxembourg and major festivals, such as Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein, Heidelberg Frühling and Lucerne Festival.
The Quartet is artist-in-residence at the Bodensee Festival at Lake Constance, a position which sees them involved in the realization of various concerts with different programs including music by Bacewicz, Beethoven, Ravel, Schumann, Barber, Mendelssohn and, of course, their own compositions.
The Vision String Quartet studied in Berlin with the Artemis Quartett and in Madrid with Günter Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartett. He also studied with Heime Müller, Eberhardt Feltz and Gerhard Schulz and attended masterclasses at the Jeunesses Musicales, ProQuartet in France and at the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz Foundation. Chamber partners include Jörg Widmann, Eckart Runge of the Artemis Quartett, Haiou Zhang, Edicson Ruiz, Avi Avital, Nils Mönkemeyer and the Quatuor les Dissonances.
He has collaborated on projects with renowned choreographer John Neumeier and worked with light designers, even playing in complete darkness, searching for a new creative dimension.
The Vision String Quartet is hosted for the first time by the Friends of Music of Florence.
