Peter Whelan, who rose to fame as a period bassoonist, is known for playing in many baroque ensembles. He is the right man to conduct Bach's first and largest Brandenburg, in which the winds play a prominent role. In the second Brandenburg soloist, there are treble instruments, trumpet, flute, oboe and violin. In the prelude to Cantata No. 174, Bach used themes from the Third Brandenburg Concerto. Biber's battle depiction Battalia represents the earlier German baroque, where warfare is sad, but sometimes also a comic activity. In the 17th century, armies from different countries rumbled all over Europe, and even in this Battalia, it is not known who is fighting and why. In Pulcinella, Stravinsky found the past and breathed life into the notes of the 18th century, which he found in the Naples library, in the sparkling 1920s.

Periodifagotistina maineeseen noussut Peter Whelan tunnetaan monien barokkiyhtyeiden riveistä. Hän on oikea mies johtamaan Bachin ensimmäistä ja suurinta Brandenburgilaista, jossa puhaltimilla on näyttävä rooli.
