Andrei Maksimov graduated from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory in 2020. At the Conservatory Theatre, he performed the roles of Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Robert (Iolanta), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Ferdinand (Betrothal in a Monastery), and George Germont (La Traviata).
While studying, Andrei became a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre Young Singers Academy. There, in addition to chamber concerts and contemporary operas, he performed the roles of Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), the Flemish Deputies (Don Carlo), and the title role in Brundibár. In 2019, he studied in Italy with M. Devia, N. Martinucci, and M. Pertusi at the Academy of the Teatro Comunale Modena. During this time, he performed Il Barone di Trombonok (Il viaggio a Reims) at the XXXI Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” in Pesaro.
In 2021 and 2022, Andrei participated in the Berlin Opera Academy in Switzerland and Berlin, where he interpreted the role of Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus). In the same year, he won the Third Prize and the Public Prize at the 8th George Enesco Vocal Competition in Paris. He also received the Eva Kleiniz Award at the Concorso Lirico Portofino in 2022.
In the 2022/23 season, as a soloist with the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin, Andrei performed Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola, French reduction), Captain and Hermann Augustus (Candide), and the Mandarin (Turandot), alongside numerous concerts.
In July 2023, outside his engagements in Strasbourg, Andrei performed the role of Enrico in Il Campanello at the Opéra de Chambre de Genève. That same year, he was a finalist in the Ningbo Opera Competition in Ningbo, China, and won First Prize in the Hans Staud Musikpreis in Vienna. The same year Andrei graduated with honors from the Bern University of Applied Sciences with an MA in Specialized Music Performance: Opera.
He is currently continuing his development as a member of the Opera Studio at the Wiener Staatsoper. During the 2024/25 season, his roles will include Paris (Roméo et Juliette), Donald (Billy Budd), Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and others. In August 2024, Andrei performed Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Vienna Opera Festival at the Musikverein, under the baton of Toby Purser.
In January 2025, Andrei made his debut as Masetto in Don Giovanni with Wiener Staatsoper in Monte-Carlo Auditorium Rainier under the baton of Bertrand de Billy.
In the 2025 edition of the Vienna Opera Festival, Andrei will return as Giorgio Germont (La traviata) and take on the roles of Escamillo (Carmen) and the Count (Le nozze di Figaro), marking his role debut as Conte Almaviva.
Looking ahead to the 2025/26 season at the Wiener Staatsoper, Andrei will appear as Masetto (Don Giovanni), Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Yamadori (Madama Butterfly), and the Hunter (Rusalka), among other roles. He will also cover Valentin (Faust) and Schaunard (La bohème).
