There are not just one, but two plot-turning potions in this opera, both supplied by a dastardly doctor, Bomelius (the strong tenor Marat Gali), the czar’s physician who comes from Germany where, presumably, knowledge about powerful potions is up-to-date. The New York times 13.07.2014
