Mahlers sogenannte „tragische“ Symphonie markiert den Auftakt in die 195. Philharmonische Konzertsaison. Konventioneller als die vorherigen, aber auf keinen Fall überraschungsfrei, stellt die gefühlsbetonte Sechste einen Meilenstein in Mahlers Karriere dar. Komponiert zwischen 1903 und 1905 entstand sie in einer Phase von Schicksalsschlägen, welche die Laufbahn des damaligen Wiener Hofoperndirektors entscheidend prägten.

Mahler's so-called "tragic" symphony marks the start of the 195th Philharmonic concert season. More conventional than the previous ones, but by no means unsurprising, the emotional Sixth represents a milestone in Mahler's career. Composed between 1903 and 1905, it was written during a phase of tragedy that had a decisive impact on the career of the Vienna Court Opera director at the time.
