Zum Saisonabschluss dirigiert Chefdirigent Sylvain Cambreling einmal in der Laeiszhalle und einmal in der Elbphilharmonie zwei absolute Meilensteine der Musikgeschichte: Den ersten Teil des Programms bildet eine konzertante Aufführung von Arnold Schönbergs expressionistischem, einaktigem Monodram »Erwartung« – ein Schlüsselwerk der Moderne. Den Solopart übernimmt die Sopranistin Anne Schwanewilms …

Darauf folgt ein wahrhaft furioses Finale – für das Konzert wie auch für die ganze Spielzeit: Mit der »Symphonie fantastique«, den »Episoden aus dem Leben eines Künstlers«, eilte Hector Berlioz der Entstehungszeit des Werkes weit voraus, legte zugleich den Grundstein für die romantische Programmmusik und somit für etliche Werke des heute gängigen Repertoires. Sowohl die ausdrucksstarke Tonsprache Schönbergs als auch Berlioz‘ Bravourstück bieten Dirigent und groß besetztem Orchester die Gelegenheit, sich vor der Sommerpause noch einmal in Höchstform zu präsentieren.

This is followed by a truly furious finale – for the concert as well as for the entire season: With the »Symphonie fantastique«, the »Episodes from the Life of an Artist«, Hector Berlioz rushed far ahead of the time the work was written, at the same time laying the foundation for the Romantic program music and thus for a number of works in today's popular repertoire. Both Schönberg's expressive tonal language and Berlioz' bravura piece offer the conductor and large orchestra the opportunity to present themselves in top form before the summer break.
